BES - What is the AlertServer?

Last Updated: Jun 25, 2013 03:10PM UTC
The AlertServer is a Java process that distributes alerts from the message channels to the BES Dashboards. This is the process that BES Dashboard users logon to from an Internet Explorer. It uses publish/subscribe technology to push alerts in real-time to logged-on users, and receive operator actions back from those users. The AlertServer creates alerts, performs correlation, timeout's, operator actions (assign, de-assign etc.) based on rules and correlation criteria. as well as managing the impact of technology alerts and tracks these against SLA’s.
Alerts are saved via the dbi (Database Interface) process to ensure no alerts are lost if BES suffers an outage and to allow historical queries. On start-up, the AlertServer connects to the database and retrieves all active data based alerts, after the dbi process has processed all the events in $PPWORK/Integrations/*. AlertServer does not fully initialise until after dbi has completed all of its tasks.

Note: For more information on the dbi process, see here.
