BES - How to delete a message channel

Last Updated: Oct 08, 2013 04:50PM UTC
To delete a message channel and all its associated SMARTView rules, SMARTEvm policies etc. open the BES Admin Console in Internet Explorer.

Under Message Channel Management, select 'Delete Message Channel'. From the message channel list, select the channel you wish to delete and click Select. You will then be prompted for confirmation be the message channel is deleted.

The delete function in the BES Admin Console calls 'mcUtil -delete' on the BES server via the BESApi. Message channels can also be deleted directly from an SSH session to the BES server by running the mcUtil program in $PPHOME/bin:

devtest(ppadmin)53% mcUtil -h
Usage: mcUtil [-rename [fromMC] [toMC] | -delete [MC] | -defined | -active] [-debug] [-quiet] [-h] [-v]
              [-lock status [MC] ]
                     free   [MC | ALL] [ [Who] [Where] [What] | FORCE ] ]
create [MC | ALL] [Who] [Where] [What] ]
Example: mcUtil –defined

Note: Once a message channel has been deleted, the actions cannot be undone. We recommend performing a PPConfig backup in case the channel configuration is required again.
